Looks like the prevailing wisdom is still wrong: Animal foods linked with reduced risk of breast cancer, while starch found to be associated with enhanced risk - “Women in the high starch group were found to be at a 34 per cent and 85 per cent increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer respectively.” The establishment has to be getting incredibly tired of facts getting in the way of its message.

Yet another way the obese body is dysfunctional: Obese Children Often Suffer From Iron Deficiency, Causing Behavioral Problems - “Overweight toddlers are nearly three times as likely to suffer from iron deficiency compared to those of healthy weight … Researchers speculated that poor diets may lead to both obesity and iron deficiency.” It’s probably not the obesity causing the iron-deficiency, but it is one more way that a poor diet is harmful.

You mean fruit is good for you? Consumption of fruits may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease - “Among the three fruits, apples contained the highest content of protective antioxidants, followed by bananas then oranges.”

This brings new meaning to “obesogenic environment”: Is Diabetes Linked To Environmental Pollution? - “…demonstrated a very strong relationship between the levels of POPs in blood, particularly organochlorine compounds, and the risk of type 2 diabetes.” It’s only at the correlation stage, not to proven causation, but it is nonetheless interesting that the pollutants we put in our environment could affect us in unexpected ways.

Eating as your genes would request is always a good idea: The ancestral human diet: what was it and should it be a paradigm for contemporary nutrition? This is a good quick read comparing modern nutrition with Paleolithic nutrition. Hat tip to Chris at Conditioning Research for pointing to this paper.
