Food Fight
Hat tip to Ross Enamait: See how you do on this food quiz. I know, it’s only looking at fat and calories, not carbs or any other stuff, but nonetheless, it’s an illustrative quiz. It shows that virtually nothing you eat at a restaurant is as good for you as you want to believe it is.

Funny you should publish this. When I saw it in Consumer Reports (its original source), I thought, “Why the heck can’t Consumer Reports stick to product reviews and leave nutrition to the experts?” Not that I am not skeptical of the experts, of course.

Too blurry to read….please tell me the lobster is the right choice!

Cindy, click on the image and it’ll open in a new window where you can blow it up to full size. And yes, the lobster is the right choice.
Cheers

Got it Scott! I had to switch over to IE to see it.
This is the danger of just looking at calories and fat. On a diet site I belong to they have what the call a “food showdown”. The foods they compare are often idiotic…..is a Burger King dessert better than a MacDonalds one….but they ONLY look at total fat and total calories! So an example like the bloomin onion VS the steak, the onion would win!! (as it does in this!)
Stupid, stupid, stupid. It’s like when you see a recipe that has you remove all the fat, then add in some kind of carbohydrate to make it palatable! Yes, fat has more calories per gram, but it also fills you up and keeps you full better. Oh and we need fat, we don’t need carbs.

Cindy, if I’m not mistaken, they have the steak as having less calories and fight than the Bloomin’ Onion.

You’re right, I mis-read it. I’d bet on my diet site the onion would win!
There was actually one for choosing a 6 ounce steak vs shrimp (didn’t say how prepared, but I believe it’s broiled). The shrimp won because it’s lower in fat (especially that “artery clogging” saturated fat) and a smaller serving.

Oops, I wrote “fight” instead of “fat.” Duh!
