They’re Kidding, Right? “Healthful Snacks”
Check out this article from Science Daily: Garbanzos, Lentils, Dry Peas And Beans Make Crunchy, Healthful Snacks
Garbanzos, lentils, and dry peas and beans can now make crunchy, great-tasting snacks that are also good for you. That’s according to Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists and their university colleagues who’ve created the unique, healthful treats that can come in a variety of shapes, from crisp bits to tubular puffs.
Ok, they had me until “crisp bits” and “tubular puffs”. Are people ever going to learn that food turned into a fun shape is probably not going to be healthful? I have serious doubts that a twin-screw extruder can turn lentil flour into something better than the beans the flour started as.
are seeking a patent for the technology that led to the low-sodium, low-fat, cholesterol-free foods. The snacks are also rich in protein and dietary fiber.
Two things jump out at me here. First, healthful foods are not patented by anyone other than Mother Nature. Science will never replicate an apple, lettuce, or cucumbers in terms of nutrition. Second, if the premise that low-fat and cholesterol-free foods is wrong, doesn’t that make the claim of “healthful snacks” wrong too? I’m just saying.
