Study Finds Organic Food Is Better
After a busy weekend, I’m back to bring you a study stating that organic food is better.
In a finding that challenges official advice, researchers have shown that fruit and vegetables contain up to 40 per cent more nutrients if they are grown without chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
Of course the conventional growers are up in arms, but it passes the smell test. Antioxidants, which are beneficial to humans, are a plant’s evolved defenses against its environment. Plants that are forced to actually compete against insects, pests, and other nasties are forced to produce more of these beneficial antioxidants. It’s similar to how a child that is allowed to play in the dirt and catch a cold now and then will have a stronger immune system than the child that is overly sanitized. The immune systems of both plants and humans is an ever-evolving organism that needs to do work to get stronger, just like a muscle.
Here’s the major findings of the study:

Here’s another key finding:
The study - which runs for another year - found that milk was more nutritious in the summer, when cattle are grazing fresh grass.
So it’s not really mind-blowing, but it’s proof that feeding a cow grass, its natural diet, is better for everyone along the food chain.
